Ajilon offered an acquaint day at RAF Coningsby for a number of their Ajilon Consultants that had responded with business development leads and suggestions. Ajilon provides SCIDA services for all UK RAF bases and maintains personnel presence on site at Coningsby. Not only is RAF Coningsby home base for a number of Typhoon Squadrons – on Thursday they were practising circuits noisily throughout the visit, but also hosts the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

Findlay Scott (Ajilon Consultant at Lloyds), Lilia Shephard (Ajilon Consultant at BAML) and James Hosier (Aviva) enjoyed a tour of the Flight’s hanger, led by an informative RAF Flight Sergeant, before having lunch in the Sergeants’ Mess. The aircraft of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight are some of the remaining few that actually flew during “our finest hour” between July and September 1940: Spitfires, Hurricanes, the Lancaster and a Dakota which all still take part in displays around the country. The tour included climbing inside the Dakota and watching the Lancaster fire up all four engines before taking off on a brief sortie to nearby RAF Scampton.

Later in the day the Lancaster took off on a second sortie only to return with an engine on fire – the RAF engineers had to work through the night in order to ensure that she was ready to fly again in time for the VE Day Celebrations.

Ajilon is keen to engage further with Ajilon Consultants so look out for more offers and opportunities in the near future.
